A messy desk can be a source of stress and frustration, leading to decreased productivity.  There are many reasons why people have messy desks, but some of the most common causes include:

  • Procrastination. One of the biggest causes of a messy desk is procrastination.  We often accumulate unfinished work on our desks when we put off tasks.  This unfinished work can create a sense of overwhelm, making it difficult to focus on our top priorities and procrastinate even more!

If being overwhelmed is the problem, take time to relax and de-stress.  My favorite things to do are going for a walk, reading a book, or listening to music.  Once you’ve had a chance to relax, you’ll be better able to tackle the mess on your desk.
